Every artiste has something different, something unique, something peculiar to them. Their peculiarity could vary from sound to the way they dress, the length of their music or videos. It could be anything.
This week’s artistes in focus features two great talents; Simi and L.A.X.
Simi

Simisola Ogunleye, now; Kosoko is popularly known as Simi. She is known for her baby yet powerful voice. She is a Nigerian songwriter, singer, sound engineer and she acts sometimes. She made appearance into the music industry as a gospel artiste with studio debut album titled; Ogaju. You must all remember that Ara Ile song that hit our eardrums in 2008, well, Simi was the gospel artiste.
As a gospel artiste, Simi wasn’t really recognized. So, in 2014, she came with a banger that that blew everyone away. She released Tiff and every radio station was playing it, soon everyone wanted to know who had the amazing song bird voice. Tiff was popular enough to bag her a nomination for Best Alternative Song at The Headies 2015. Ever since, she has been gaining good grounds and mesmerizing us with good music. Her genre of music would be Afro-soul, but she fuses well with Afro-pop, alt-rock and RnB.
She was signed under X3M in 2014 to 2019 when the contract expired. Simi and falz managed to pull a hoax on most of us , making us believe they were in love with their many song collaboration; Chemistry inclusive, she got married to Adekunle Gold in 2019. They are blessed with a baby girl and still happily married, living their lives based on their own terms and helping each other get better. You can definitely see and hear the changes she has made in the man. To her credit, She has released about eight projects, albums and EPs inclusive. In no particular order, they are;
Simisola
Chemistry (EP)
Omo Charlie Champagne
Kitty (EP)
Simi
I’m Back Home
Untitled
Restless II (EP)
Her latest being Restless is the representation of an evolved Simi giving us amazing Afro-pop and we love it, we want more and can’t get enough.
L.A.X

His full name is Damilola Afolabi. He is a Nigerian musician. He was born in 1993 in Lagos state. He discovered that he could make sweet melodies and rhymes at an early age. In secondary school; Nigerian Turkish International College, he was part of a trio music group called Flyboiz . He left Nigeria to further his education in London. This was where his career began as he was recording songs and shooting short videos for fun. L.A.X released his first major single Jaye which featured vocal appearance from Ice Prince in 2012.
In 2013, he released Caro which won him the Diaspora Artiste of The Year at the 2014 edition of Nigeria Entertainment awards. He also had a major label deal with Starboy Entertainment. After the success of Caro, he recorded and released another song with the Starboy himself, titled; Ginger. The song was nominated in the “Best Collaboration” category at the 2014 edition of BEN Television Awards.
He produces; Afrobeats, reggae, Fuji and of course, Afro-pop. He recently released an album called ZaZa Vibes. The album has everything you would want from a Nigerian artiste; music about vibes, love and mullar!!! You can’t say L.A.X doesn’t deserve everything he’s got now. We wish him more success and more records.
With these two, you see that you can be a star. You only got to keep your light shinning. One day, you will be noticed but you have to put work in.
Enjoy your weekend, do not forget; never drink and drive. Stay Jiggy!
